Sigils in Seralia
A downloadable game
Sigils in Seralia is an 18-page rules-lite tabletop role-playing game, originally developed for the Landsknecht Diceless TTRPG Jam.
Set in a fantastical world inspired by the work of Susanna Clarke, Sigils in Seralia casts players as magical "Silmarkt," or humans who bear mysterious sigils inscribed on their skin. These sigils convey varying powers in combination with each other.
Outcomes and decisions in this game are determined by drawing tokens, which are included as printable PDF files. These tokens answer yes/no questions as well as more complex queries. Each token bears the image of one of the sigils that exists in the world of Seralia. Tokens are drawn from a bag or box to answer questions, set character statistics, and drive combat.
Sigils in Seralia is influenced by many rules-lite OSR-style games, providing a framework for diceless play but allowing wide flexibility for solo play. Alternatively, the game can be run by a "Sign Reader" who interprets the sigils and guides the narrative.
This game has only been lightly playtested - comments and critiques are welcomed. Other features to expect:
- OSR-style stats with a diceless twist
- Classless system - a character's attributes are determined by sigils
- Fate points to balance unlucky draws
- A wide-open magic system based on interpretation of sigils
- Solo-focused rules
- Printable token PDFs that can be cut and pasted on coins or other items
If the game proves enjoyable, future planned releases include expanded magic rules; a bestiary; a character sheet; and adventure modules for hex and dungeon crawls.
